August 1st is the Swiss' National Holiday celebrating something near on 800 years of independance from Austria.
So the party started in a town hall where all the kids were given these wonderful bread rolls to tide their hunger until the main course could arrive. Isaac ate about 5!
SAUSAGES!!!! This is Dominick cooking up some yummers. He is a carpenter who rents a shop from the base so we knew him a bit. We had sausages with a potatoe salad and a green bean salad.
After dinner we walked through the village. This is Isaac and Ryan with Isaac's best kid-friend on the base, Erica.
This is where we walked to. A gathering of old trees in a field that had a bunch of tables and lights set up waiting for us. Here they served us coffee and yummy guyere cheese. Then they lit the bonfire and the fireworks.
Isaac liked the fire and the cheese! The fires are symbolic of when the Swiss lit fires at the tops of the mountains to signal to the other villages and towns when the Austrians retreated.
We all had a lot of fun.
