So as a treat to everyone on the base we all took a "family" outing to the Nestle Chocolate factory and Gruyere, Switzerland (home of the famous fondue lovin' cheese).
First up we went to the Nestle Chocolate factory, which I had no idea was a Swiss company. The name above is one of their more famous Swiss brand offerings.
We took a tour of the factory which included getting to sample raw unprocessed cocoa beans.
Of course we got to sample the real thing as well. We went down a long counter top full of every different chocolate that they make in the world and were allowed to sample every single one!
Here is some of the old-timey equipment that they used to make the chocolate with.
Next up was Gruyere, Switzerland. The only "official" place in the world that can make and sell AOC approved Gruyere Swiss Cheese.
This is the actual village of Gruyere, where we stopped for lunch but the bulk of the cheese isn't made here, of course.
Here is a look inside the nearby factory where the cheese is made.
This is the cheese cave where the cheese is aged. After a tasting Autumn prefers the younger and Ryan the older cheese, Isaac just likes all of it.
